Our School

HIGH SCHOOL

The curriculum for our secondary program is based on strong standards and augments the National Curriculum with an international focus. At Lakeside International School, the subjects taught in the Secondary Program are divided into eight subject groups: language (English and Spanish), humanities, social studies, sciences, mathematics, arts, physical education, and technology.

The program is based around five Areas of Interaction: approaches to learning (related to study skills), community and service, environment, group dynamics, and health and social education. The Areas of Interaction are a key feature of the Secondary Program. They are taught as themes that are reflected in all subjects.

Projects and Involvement

In addition, students complete personal projects throughout the year, participate in community service initiatives and prepare for university. These are all important aspects of the Secondary Program. Students learn more than a collection of facts. Our Secondary program prepares students for university inside and outside Costa Rica and encourages them to:

  • Ask challenging questions
  • Learn how to learn
  • Develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture
  • Develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures.
